Small bowel biopsy

A small bowel biopsy is particularly helpful when taken at endoscopy to exclude conditions such as Coeliac disease and other inflammatory conditions involving the small intestine and it is extremely safe with no significant side effects.Your child would have this done at endoscopy and then the biopsies are looked at under the microscope and the results would be discussed with you the following week. The majority of children with Coeliac disease require this to occur to substantiate or exclude the diagnosis.

Professor Thomson is the director of a pathology company to which he will be sending the biopsies for analysis.
